My Tribute to Indiana Jones

This Hub is my tribute to the Indiana Jones movies and books. From the first movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark to the last movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, our budding archaeologist has kept audiences coming back, including myself, to admire the skills of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. As part of this tribute, I've listed the best children's and fan merchandise, that ranges from jigsaw puzzles and books to clothing that I feel represents the most original and popular products available. I hope through this Hub, you will also become an Indy fan, if you are not one already.

Since I've been very young, I've been a fan of the Indy movies. I love history and archaeology. The history of Ancient Egypt and Greece have been my passion for years. So any story that has some story line related to the search for lost artifacts has always had my attention. I am also a big fan of European history in the period between the two world wars when Hitler was busy building his influence. So if you combine all these aspects you will find a story line that pretty much match the Indiana Jones story lines to the tee. The search for lost treasure has always gripped mankind and this is also one of the golden threads in all the Indy stories. There are always some lost artifact that is being searched for and this ensures that the stories stay gripping until the last minute. Harrison Ford has been very good in the role of Indiana Jones and it would be interesting to see if he retains the role in any future movie.

There are many candidates currently for the role as a modern day real life Indiana Jones. My vote goes to the Greek Archaeologist, Katerina Peristeri. She played a massive role in the very exciting excavations of the now famous Amphipolis Tomb. There has been a lot of speculation as to who the occupant of the tomb was. The most popular candidate is Olympia, the mother of Alexander the Great. Katerina has been handling this very difficult excavation in an exemplary fashion ensuring that the science of archaeology is not being sacrificed for the sake of good news paper and television publicity.

Is Indiana Jones based on Otto Rahn's Life Story?

Otto Rahn was German Medieval specialist that had a passion to find the origins of the Aryan race. He did research in Iceland and claimed that he found an ancient place of worship in a cave on the island. This however turned out to be incorrect. He also did research and investigations to find the Holy Grail. This episode in his life, closely resembles some parts of the movie, The Last Crusade .

Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have never admitted that they based any of the stories on Otto Rahn, but this has been wildly speculated.
